Anthony Bourdain Evening

Last night Mom and I went to listen to Anthony Bourdain (he of Kitchen Confidential fame) speak at the Corona Theatre.

The cost of the ticket included a copy of his new book, No Reservations and after the lecture was finished we were able to get our books signed by him!

The talk itself was pretty light, fun and of course filled with all his regular curse-filled vocabulary. He's coarse, vulgar and at times offensive but I really don't care too much because above all, he's honest. He writes the way he talks and makes it interesting and fun to read or listen. I enjoyed the evening and I think Mom did too.

Mom was amazed by the number of people lined up outside when we arrived (she's obviously never been to a rock concert where the people line up all day so that by the time you arrive, the queue is about 2 kilometres long). As the tickets were general admission (no assigned seating), we got there early with the hopes of getting decent seats. It's a good thing we did! We ended up in the third row, almost smack in the middle. Once the talk was over, we lined up to get our books autographed and were out within 15 minutes. All in all, a fun way to spend a few hours on a rainy October evening.

Tell Me Why I Don't Like Mondays

I'll tell you why.

Because this morning I went to the gym only to discover that I'd left half my clothes for work at home! So I did a shorter workout than planned, threw all my stuff back into my bag, raced home on the metro, jumped into the shower and ended up catching the 8:25 bus back downtown which got me to work bang on time at 8:45am.

Much muttering and cursing there was.

Happy Belated National Grouch Day

Apparently yesterday was National Grouch Day. In some kind of weird way, I must've known, deep down inside, that it was OK to be grouchy. Yeah for grouches like me!

Moving In?

My brother Nick and family arrived last night to spend a week with my Mom. By the amount of stuff they unpacked from their new mini-van, it looks like they may just be moving in.

While Mom went to a meeting, I cooked a quick spaghetti dinner for them and got lots of hugs, laughs and doodling with Darcy. Wesley managed to let go of ALL the gas he'd been building up during the car ride.

An Instant Classic

Check out Nick's blog for one of the funniest stories about Darcy I have heard yet (and there have been quite a few!).
